DallasKidsRead!: A Festival Celebrating Literacy and Imagination, There will be a multitude of activities centered around the world of literature. Authors and illustrators will be present to read from their very own books and will host informal illustration workshops for kids. Celebrities will read their favorite childhood books, storybook characters will greet and take pictures with their biggest fans! There will be puppet shows, crafts, face painting, musical entertainment and the DallasKidsRead! bookstore will be on site. Books for sale include many authored and illustrated by our guest authors and illustrators! Purchase a book and get it signed by these award winning artists. A portion of proceeds will be donated to Rainbow Days, Inc. Activities will take place in NorthPark Center's NorthCourt, located between Nordstrom and Macy's.

DallasKidsRead!: A Festival Celebrating Literacy and Imagination, sponsored by AT&T, is a free, two-day festival designed to foster a love of literature and reading among our youngest citizens. First Lady of Dallas Laura Leppert serves as Honorary Chair for this event benefiting Rainbow Days, Inc. OVer 4,500 Dallas ISD students are invited on a fieldtrip to Friendship West Baptist Church where students will meet 19 award winning authors and illustrators who will read from their very own books and interact with students during informal writing and illustration workshops. Students will enjoy listening to stories read by celebrities, musical entertainment and participate in interactive storytelling.

Katie and the Magic Umbrella: On Snowflake Trail Release Party and booksigning
Veteran TV meteorologist Kristine Kahanek will be signing copies and reading her new children's weather adventure book inspired by her daughter Katherine that helps children learn about science in a fun way while relieving their fears about storms. Also appearing and signing copies is Katie Book Illustrator Jennifer Kindert. There will be a gift wrap station and proceeds will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Collin County,

Creative Solutions Art Summer Camp Art Show at Southern Methodist University
Creative Solutions is a program presented by Big Thought in partnership with the Dallas County Juvenile Department, The camp gives at-risk teens a positive outlet for self-expression, teaches job skills and college readiness and helps them channel their energy and creativity into worthy pursuits. Taught by professional artist-mentors, students in the program receive visual or performing arts training and often discover raw talent, instilling confidence and inspiring them to stay in school, go on to college and seek new career paths.

Latino Cultural Center Discover Art Workshop
An intense art workshop held by Junior Players for children ages 10-14 and hosted by Dallas' Latino Cultural Center. This free, in-depth workshop covers the usage of various art media, techniques and styles. The students will also learn how to curate their own art show. This workshop will result in a reception/exhibit featuring the original art created by the students on June 26, 2009.

The Dallas Children's Book Fair and Literary Festival is a partnership between the Dallas Public Library, the African American Museum and the Dallas Independent School District, for children in grades pre-K through sixth.
